Apparently Meta is afraid of Pixelfed. Clearly, @dansup is doing something right. Can't imagine a bigger compliment.

"CONFIRMED: Facebook has *banned* anyone from linking to Pixelfed. #metablockingpixelfed"

Maybe tech media should pick this up. Seems like a good story!

I can't believe so many people here are still on Facebook, keeping it alive, making it relevant, doing harm.

So let me get this straight: First, it was Elon. Now, it is Mark. Two guys are removing all moderation rules on social media. And are people asking another billionaire to build alternative social media? Do you even hear yourself? That is not going to fix anything. Maybe we should go back to the days of blogs, mailing lists, individual forums, and RSS feeds and end this madness of centralized social media apart from the federation. I’m just saying

we absolutely should. Centralized platforms can be bought and sold by scum with many years of stolen wages in their bank accounts. Individuals making their own communities are much more resilient

Meta Risks Mass Exodus: Is #HelloQuitMeta the Next Viral Movement?

Meta's recent decision to allow claims of mental illness towards LGBT+ individuals on its platforms has sparked a wave of outrage. This new moderation policy, announced by Mark Zuckerberg, now permits labeling a person as "weird" or "mentally ill" based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, under the guise of free speech.

This conservative shift by Meta could have disastrous consequences, similar to those observed on X (formerly Twitter) with the HelloQuitX movement (helloquitx.com/). Indeed, this decision not only risks violating European and French law but also alienating a large portion of its user base, particularly sensitive to issues of discrimination and inclusion.

In light of this situation, one wonders if a "HelloQuitMeta" movement might emerge, prompting users to massively abandon Meta's platforms. This phenomenon could represent a serious setback for the company, both in terms of image and advertising revenue. At a time when social networks are closely scrutinized for their handling of hate speech, Meta is playing a dangerous game that could prove costly.

Hello Folks!

Another Meta/Corporate Social Media escapee here. Nice to meet you all. Found this site from Lemmy, but remember hearing it years ago. Looking to find, use, and support community-driven open source media and sites. How? I'm not quite sure yet, going to figure it out as I go.

Love history, love genre fiction, and New York City (Let's Go Mets!). Hope everyone is well, and thanks for having me.
