Its time to uninvite Trump from coming to Canada for the G7 -- G6. Vance also should be forbidden from coming here ever. Why do you want 2 Manchurian candidates for Russia on Canadian soil?

Honestly, I don't know how Zelenksy didn't punch the cheetoh that whole time. That man has remarkable restraint.
I have never been so embarrassed for our country. What a thug. "World War III," he says over and over, echoing Putin's sabre rattling throughout his invasion. Even sitting in the White House, Trump is echoing the Kremlin line.
What's even more despicable is that the spineless, gutless GOP will say nothing about this indefensible show of gutlessness and cowardice by their leader. Imagine that: Being afraid of cowards makes you one.

Something to keep in mind when you hear that voters care about the economy and vote the way they do because of the economy and vote for fascists because of the economy…
…is that for about half the population, “the economy” just means “whether a Republican is president.”

That reporter from The Guardian — and the Harris pollster they talk to — dance around this, but just somehow can’t quite put it together:
They have the causal arrow backwards for a •large• chunk of voters. That chunk didn’t vote for Trump because they thought the economy was bad under Biden; they thought the economy was bad •because• they vote for Trump.
(Yes, there are •also• plenty of people whose “economic concerns” are actually economic concerns. But they are only one part of Trump’s coalition, maybe not even a majority of it. Analysis that misses that fact misses the whole story.)

not having read the article, is it sympathy or schadenfreude?
I remember lots of articles about British ex-pats and pensioners living in Spain who voted for Brexit being all pissed off about how everything's more complicated for them now and many had to move back to the UK.
I'm not sure they got much sympathy...

Wait, what? Real question here.
I somehow "get" that Trump can "legally" do this for federal workplaces. However, private companies can still choose how they want to operate internally, right?
Right?

I'm not sure if this is a settings problem, an node problem, or a Friendica problem, but I get very different search results from using the web-ui (Frio theme w/ BookFace style) and an app (Raccoon for Friendica) on the same account.
From the web-ui, unless I search for a specific account ('user@server.name'), I can only search for other Friendica users. Here's me searching for me ('@breakfastmtn'):
However, if I search using Raccoon, I can see my many other accounts across the Fediverse:
So from the web-ui, I can only discover Friendica accounts which is less than ideal. Is there a setting I'm not seeing to change this? Should I talk to my admin? Thanks in advance! 😀
Similar bonus problem: I never receive notifications for new follows in the web-ui. If not for the Raccoon app, I'd never know when I had a new follower. All desktop notification settings are enabled -- although it looks like the 'introduction' settings all apply to email.

Right on.
The Court *should* be concerned about its independence and technological security, particularly given the current American experience of historical factual government information being deleted for ideological purposes.
It would be wise and, of all things, the Court should be wise.

Indeed. More op eds about "personal liberty" sounds great really, but somehow I'm suspicous exactly what certain particular people using those particular words really mean.
Maybe we could faciliate free markets by having open borders, limiting intelectual property to promote competition, and such? I don't even know where to begin for op eds suggestions on "liberty", but not somewhere Bezos would approve I'm sure.

The instance has felt really stable for the last few days. Moving the problem to another time of day has either made it easier to manage or... the problems are happening while I'm sleeping. Either way, that works for me! ;)

#DHS Secy #KristiNoem [& dog serial killer], who announced the plan Tues, argued that the #Trump admin should know who is here illegally so that it can #deport them or give them the chance to leave voluntarily. She has warned immigrants in recent days that they “will be #hunted down & deported” if they fail to register & has cited a provision of the 1952 Immigration & Nationality Act as justification for the requirement.
#immigration #law #USpol #Nazi #NurembergLaws #YellowStar #WhiteSupremacy
The registration plan faces several significant obstacles. Immigrants may be *reluctant* to register after watching the #Trump admin order federal officers into US cities & towns to #detain people or send them to #Guantánamo…. And lawyers & legal scholars say the admin’s proposal is on shaky #legal ground & could quickly destabilize communities & an #economy w/millions of unfilled jobs.

“I do not think they can do this without going through the proper legal processes,” said Nancy Morawetz, a professor at NYU Law School. “You can’t just say, ‘Oh I’m going to go back & read the law that way.’ You have to explain why you’re changing it, why it’s legal.”
…Registration dates to the 1940s & is codified in the 1952 #Immigration & Nationality Act. The #law requires immigrants aged 14 or older to register & be fingerprinted within 30 days of arrival, if they had not done so already.
…The new program could lead to a “nationwide show-me-your-papers regime” that could ensnare US #citizens & legal immigrants, Greg Chen, senior director of government relations for the American #Immigration Lawyers Association, warned in an interview. Anyone who “appears foreign” could be harassed, he said.

“Registration laws have a very, very bad history in terms of what they have meant when they have been fully enforced,” she said.
