The budding rap superstar won her first grammy for best rap album during the telecast for the 2025 Grammy Awards for her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. Her win makes her only the third woman, after Lauryn Hill (who won as a part of the group The Fugees) and Cardi B, to take home the golden statue for rap album since the award was first introduced 35 years ago.
An emotional Doechii took to the stage to celebrate her win.
“I put my heart and my soul into this mixtape,” she said. “I bared my life. I went through so much, I dedicated myself to sobriety and God told me that I would be rewarded and that he would show me just how good it can get.” The rapper has been open about her sobriety, even making it the subject of her single, “DENIAL IS A RIVER,” from her (now Grammy-winning) album.

βI put my heart and my soul into this mixtape,β she said. βI bared my life. I went through so much, I dedicated myself to sobriety and God told me that I would be rewarded and that he would show me just how good it can get.β The rapper has been open about her sobriety, even making it the subject of her single, βDENIAL IS A RIVER,β from her (now Grammy-winning) album.
The rapper went on to thank various people who helped her professionally, including her mother, her label and her fans.
Doechiiβs win doesnβt only make her the second solo female rapper to take home the coveted Grammy award, it means that 100% of the solo female rappers who have taken home the golden Gramophone are Black, queer women. Cardi B, who presented the award that she won in 2019 for Invasion of Privacy, has been open about her bisexuality throughout her career, even to the point of getting in several social media spats over her love of women.
Doechii ended her speech by shouting out to all the Black women watching.
βI know that there is some Black girl out there, so many Black women out there who are watching me right now, and I want to tell you, you can do it,β Doechii said. βAnything is possible. Donβt allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you, that tell you that you canβt be here, that youβre too dark or that youβre not smart enough or that youβre too dramatic or youβre too loud.β She added: βYouβre exactly who you need to be to be right where you are.β
This Grammy win is another banner moment in a major year for the queer rapper. Aside from releasing her acclaimed mixtape in August, she also guest starred on RuPaulβs Drag Race earlier this month, catapulting her song βAlter Ego,β which was the soundtrack to a Lip Sync for Your Life, to its largest day on Spotify ever."

Bob Rae says, "The UN Charter was drafted in 1945 by people who had learned the lessons that the aggression, isolationism and tariff barriers of the 20's and 30's had led the world into a conflagration. Article One makes it clear: threats of annexation are illegal. So are unilateral tariffs in breach of a trade agreement."
Robert Scott Horton explains, "Bob Rae is Canada's permanent representative to the UN. He was also recently selected by his diplomatic colleagues as the new head of ECODOC. What he writes here is blackletter international law. Amazing isn't it that Trump engages in precisely the sort of threats that Hitler leveled at Poland and Czechoslovakia in 1937-39, without the fact of this flagrant violation of law even being mentioned in the thousands of hours of air time of talking head "experts" on American broadcast media. A profound demonstration of the crudeness of US reporting on international law issues.
