Normally as an atheist, I respect other human beings but I admit that in the case of religious extremists, I make an exception.
A little prayer to mother nature so they can join their gods as soon as possible .

I grew up with these humans, and they are not nuts, just fundamentally opposed to my way of life and existence.
I don't want to excuse them by trivialising their thinking.
Oh, and isn't it interesting in which contexts "fundamentalist" is a slur, especially when used by the West.

Orbán’s government presents this as if Hungary is stopping Ukrainian money laundering. But there is just one problem: If Ukraine was laundering money in Ukraine, that money would go out of Ukraine to buy assets in the EU. But the seized money and gold was travelling from Austria to Ukraine.
In a war, the economy runs on foreign cash, as people realize that the banking systems are often unavailable. And as Ukraine runs a huge trade deficit, it keeps running out of cash, hence the trucks.

I did some research on how the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin even though Russia is not a State Party. The answer gives me hope that Trump and Hegseth could still be prosecuted in the ICC even though the USA is not a State Party.
The arrest warrant for Putin came about because Ukraine, although not yet a fully-fledged State Party, accepted the jurisdiction of the ICC. That was enough.
So, I can envision a collection of State Parties and other states accepting the jurisdiction of the ICC making the case that the USA’s war on Iran has been such a scientifically provable disaster for the environment that it amounts to a crime against humanity.
Last year Ukraine / Russia looked every few days like this. What happens in Iran is not nearly comparable what für years of war in Ukraine have caused. Only the media coverage is worse compared to the war in Iran. Relentless Russian attacks on Ukraine forced them to attacks most oft Russias oil refinieries and oil depots.

The friction occurs because of who funds studies, etc. And that can be legitimate.
But science itself is just science.
Every conversation I have had where I encountered this, I made that point. And it sticks.
There is bias in some aspects of what is *presented* as science.
But that's not science.

Also, "they paid off the scientists to say [something untrue]" (or to hide the truth) is another sign that the speaker doesn't know a damn thing about scientists (and probably has an axe to grind and/or some snake oil to sell you).
If they were that motivated by money, they wouldn't have gone into science in the first place. They'd have gotten an MBA or something.

Best way to do it when local community profit from the taxes and even better when local communities, the people can invest directly.

As one of my colleagues said today: "let's remove the red tape, and set a single condition for building a nuclear plant; you must have a deposit over to the state covering any and all expenses of a cleanup once a fuck up occurs before you get permission to build it"
There. Now no one can afford it, and the public won't have to foot the bill.

in reply to Randahl Fink • • •What you're doing is called cherry picking. We had multiple days with low wind during the previous 7 days. Covering that with batteries is super expensive and don't forget about the grid when you get 100% one day and 5% the next when it's not utilized at all (hint you build more grid than you have to). Wind is a compliment, but nothing you can build a modern civilization on. I've not even started with the economy of windfarms which is just - waste of money.

But I agree this kind of electricity is supposed to replace petrol and gaz.
The Iran was of 2026 is a test to know if this works or not
Are we still dependant of petrol or less.

Too much reliance on combined cycle (i.e., gas) because of complicated structural reasons (very limited international connectivity), but still, renewables + nuclear account for almost 75%.
