Astronomers : good news everyone! We've discovered a new planet! We've called it Pluto!

Chemists: Congrats! And good news by the way, we've discovered a new element! To honor the new planet, we've called it Plutonium!

Astronomers : we've changed our mind, Pluto is not a planet anymore.

Going to try this again:

If you are an ICT professional, please share one scenario you actually faced where you used a collection of basic ICT skills. You don't need to explain how you solved it (it should be something another ICT professional could work through). Just share the scenario. It would really help me out.

My 15 year old students have learned an entire textbook of ICT info/skills in conceptual manner with zero practical experience or even thinking in terms of real scenarios.

asking specifically about enterprise environments? ICT is very wide of a term (if we are thinking of the same thing - Information and Communications Technology; I am assuming as such based on your profile & other posts), it seems wild to me to have a singular textbook. It might be helpful to specify exactly what subset.

Would someone who uses a screen reader (or is an actual expert in the #accessibility area) kindly let me know if the custom of “adding alt text via a reply to a post” is actually helpful or not?

As in, if an image in a post doesn’t have alt text, do you scroll through the replies in the hopes that you find one? Or is this custom not too helpful, because you move on as soon as you find that the image is lacking alt text? Thank you so much for your insights in advance!

#alttext: I'm going to buy a parrot and only teach it to say 4 phrases: I miss my hands. Never break a primise to a witch. There's only one way to lift the curse. I just want to hug my kids again.

@Track_Shovel I want to get a parrot, train it to constantly say "I'm sorry, something went wrong", and "There's been an error. Please try again later.", and lock all the devs who make useless error messages in a room with it till they go back and make actual error messages I can use to figure out what broke!

"No! You sit at that keyboard and make real error messages! You can eat when it tells me what to fix!"

I had a rough couple of turns today and find myself fiscally behind the 8-ball. I'm passing the hat again. Anything you can offer, even a reblog, is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much, this means the world to me.

RE: floss.social/@kde/115617248408…

are we sure we're ready for this? i love wayland but i'm also not reliant on accessibility software. and i've heard time and time again from people who are that wayland is still far from being accessible

#Plasma is going all #Wayland

After nearly three decades of KDE desktop environments running on #X11, the future KDE Plasma 6.8 release (due early 2027) will be Wayland-exclusive.

Read the FAQ below to find out what this means for you and the future of KDE:

Picard engineering tip: Use the metric system.
in reply to James Brooke

@jCarttarBrooke @joshua I fear the Space Age will be over forever very soon due to the Kessler Syndrome. There are already too many satellites in orbit already, the current numbers of LEO satellites is entirely unsustainable, yet that dangerously rich and powerful idiot Nazi bastard Elon Musk wants to put even more up there. Even if we don't add any new satellites, sooner or later a chain reaction of collisions will make all future space launches impossible. We need to reduce the number of objects in orbit and then keep it as low as possible, only launching a new satellite after an old one has been deorbited. Just because there is no life in orbit doesn't mean we don't have to care about sustainability.
