Hoping for the best

My goal is to rid Meta for good. Taking baby steps here in hopes it catches on. I'll be attempting to recruit as best I can. Cheers
in reply to Eddie Trax

@Eddie Trax Friendica has been the way for me to reduce my reliance on Meta, but it's not been the only one; I also owe to everyone who migrated to Mastodon back in the day and are still active (or restarted activity), all the publishers who are currently federating on Flipboard, all the Lemmy communities - even to Tumblr, Bluesky and RSS for (still) existing.

Slowly but surely we're going to get rid of all those centralized, data-hungry silos!

in reply to Eddie Trax

@Cătă Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Lemmy before trying Friendica. We are the easy ones, the hard part is gathering the others. Glad to be here!

in reply to Ruud

At least in the popup post window on the web I couldn't get them to work. Trying again in replies 😁 success! Thanks @Ruud

I heard that friendica can support RSS feeds, and Tumblr too? Anyone know how to do that?

@Ruud You're from the Netherlands! My home away from home! ❤️❤️❤️

Hello!

I would like to share my two webcomics here on the platform: They can also be found on my website, thedojahng.com. The Primary strip, "The Do-Jahng" is published every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and my other strip, "Jim & Celeste" is published Monday-Friday.

Today's "Do-Jahng" page:

Bluesky addon disabled temporarily

Due to the ongoing backlog in worker jobs, I've disabled the Bluesky addon. This generated a lot of extra jobs, and I want to focus on getting the queue empty and the worker issue fixed before enabling it again.

Sorry about that.

in reply to Ruud

At the current rate, it would take 19 days to get the job queue processed. This is not acceptable so we keep working on this issue.

Image test

@ajsadauskas Interesting ... just checked your post in the android-app Raccoon: here I can see 6 blurry images.

Maybe I'm just on a "slow connection"? 🤔

... aaand then again, I can't post from Raccoon. Weird. 🤨

Works from the Fedilab android app, though.

Here, too, the images are blurred out (which, at least, is more than via Firefox, where I just got the placeholders), and here I also get a more informative "can't load remote image" message.
(edit: the message I get is "Media cannot be loaded!", with a "Load media remotely" button (that seemingly does nothing))

Starting the process of dumping the zuckerverse

@lynfox

Created a friendica.world account and connected it to myself on mastodon and pixelfed.au

If this works I'll start subverting my family and friends on fb & insta.
Closing those dodgy accounts is my project for 2025.

in reply to lynfox

Please be aware that we're having an issue causing federation to Mastadon and others to lag behind.. sorry about that
in reply to Ruud

No problem, thanks for letting me know.

View Bluesky posts on Friendica

Hey all, I would like to follow a few #Bluesky folks that haven't made it to the Fediverse. Is there a way to follow them here? When I try to search for an account, I am just getting a No Matches modal.

Today I setup a #Peertube instance and live streamed as a test, just to learn something new. It wasn't very difficult, deploying with Docker.
in reply to Dartly

How much resources is needed for a Peertube instance? I imagine with video it can get taxing.

Hi everyone!

I am David from Singapore. I asked ChatGPT what are the Facebook alternatives out there and Friendica is one of those recommended. So here I am to explore around.
While the community is small, I like the fact that these is no ads. A good start.

Newbie question

How does one create lists...So I can sort feeds into categories... IE- Real Life Friends, News, Film, etc?

Thanks!

in reply to Helen Jojo Blackforest

The thing you're looking for is circles.

1.) Click on the people shaped "Contacts" icon up top.
2.) Select the "Circles" tab on the upper right side of the menu bar.
3.) On the left, next to "Circles", click the plus sign to create a new circle.
4.) Enter a name for the circle and press enter.
5.) Click the plus sign to the right of the people you want to add to that circle.
6.) Return to the square shaped "My friends conversations" icon up top, and select the circles you want to view.

Alternatively, you can search for an item (either a search term of a hash tag), and then there is a floppy disk sign on the upper right to save the search. That is then available in your friends conversations screen under "Saved Searches".
