Newbie question

How does one create lists...So I can sort feeds into categories... IE- Real Life Friends, News, Film, etc?

Thanks!

The thing you're looking for is circles.

1.) Click on the people shaped "Contacts" icon up top.
2.) Select the "Circles" tab on the upper right side of the menu bar.
3.) On the left, next to "Circles", click the plus sign to create a new circle.
4.) Enter a name for the circle and press enter.
5.) Click the plus sign to the right of the people you want to add to that circle.
6.) Return to the square shaped "My friends conversations" icon up top, and select the circles you want to view.

Alternatively, you can search for an item (either a search term of a hash tag), and then there is a floppy disk sign on the upper right to save the search. That is then available in your friends conversations screen under "Saved Searches".

Big day for the fediverse

Major news in the #fediverse: #Mastodon becomes a non-profit ; and Instagram replacement #pixelfed , which is seeing a big surge in membership as people flee Meta, launches mobile apps.

And while we're on the subject, let me point to Loops, a fediverse alternative to TikTok which is just now getting off the ground.

I tried to join gram.social but the email confirmation didn't come in for a long while and then it didn't work. I requested another one. Maybe things are funky because of the influx.

Wicked!

We saw Wicked on New Year's Eve in the theater. It was excellent. I read the book years and years ago and liked it. The stage show, meh....I think because I read the book first. So when the film came out I was like, "meh". But everyone said it was good so, what the hell, I'll go. Glad I did! The scope and world of the story translates perfectly to the screen. And they are delving further into the source material (hence the two parts - this two hour, fourty-minute film is essentially what would be Act 1 of the stage production). Both leads are fantastic. Ariana Grande proves her worth as a versatile performer. Erivo is splendid as Elphaba - her "Defying Gravity" transition is a stunningly gorgeous few minutes of acting and filmmaking.

We saw it last night, it feels like a worthy rendition to (admittedly very distant in my memory) the first part of the first book as well as spending a lot of time in homage to the musical. Adaptations are never easy to get right, and as I recall the back half of the book had some pacing issues so I'm interested in seeing how they grapple with that. At the same time I hope they don't make the mistake of trying to create a cinematic universe, it's just not something anyone has any appetite for anymore.

My first thought was, "Whoa, is that Charlie Sheen being threatened by his brother Emilio Estevez?" And wow, those guys are really pale 🤣

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME - SIGN ME UP (as a California resident for 43 years)

Haha! She used one of the shots that blocks 🟠🤡 behind a pillar. 😄 Carter Center did the same thing.

More snow!

It started coming down early afternoon. A couple of inches more expected.

We have some wicked icicles from the winter storm this past week. 10 inches of snow in our area.

I'm starting to get the hang of things here. Mobile site is quite user friendly so that's good. Still not sure how to remove the dislike option from my posts (I don't care if someone doesn't like what I say -lol!) or how to create different types of friends lists. Eventually I'll work that out. Now if I can convince my FB friends that it's worth the learning curve to try it out over here. 🙌

No app yet, I guess, but the mobile site works. Maybe there is life after FB. I mean, even though it's owned by inferno spawn, I have a lot going on at FB. But if I can move my personal activity over here and just use FB for groups..... 🤔 Been here before so who knows.

friendica (DFRN) - Link to source

Strange, it works nicely for me. The developer is also on Matrix, if you use that?
in reply to Ruud

I'm not sure where the OP went from the guy who was having trouble navigating Friendica, but I thought I'd post this link to a YT series that has been helpful to me in setting up. This is part one of a six part series - the videos are relatively short, but explain a lot.

The state of the world requires a lot of moving about! Sheesh. This seems like a pretty cool place with a relatively easy learning curve. YAY!
