@Chris Trottier Glad you're okay! People had such different experiences across the city! I heard it more than felt it in East Van. A bunch of friends said there was violent shaking. A friend who was downtown had no idea that anything had happened at all.

I'm on coffee number 3.
I was just in an #earthquake! It was confusing. I kinda thought that there were pipes bursting downstairs or something. I more heard it than felt it and had no idea it was an earthquake until someone texted me. Very different experience in different parts of the city. I have friends about a 10 min bike ride away that said their whole building was shaking intensely!

not sure where to post feature requests but I've noticed a growth in promotions on Pixelfed. Is that something to be encouraged, ignored or discouraged?
Personally, I'm mainly bothered by commercialization, particularly if it overwhelms the other content, so I'd be up for discouraging it.
Also, Markdown (raised by others previously) seems like a good, user centred way for people to express themselves efficiently. The world of comms elsewhere has evolved this richness (bold, italic, lists & bullets etc), so why not the Fediverse too?
Loops in its current state would wreak havoc on Mastodon and other fediverse platforms that cache remote media
This is why it doesn't federate yet, and isn't fully open source.
Loops is serving TBs of video per day, and we don't even federate yet.
Which is why I'm working on a solution to minimize bandwidth, and leveraging the upcoming FediCDN initiative.
We're going to get this right, and without other fediverse servers having to pay for this expensive video federation!

You've raised an incredible amount of money, which shows that people have confidence in you and believe you when you say you want to make this a real community effort.
It's okay if your software is open and it has flaws. But it's not okay if you keep this cycle of hyping up something for months (years, now?) and when push comes to shove you just continue doing things on your own.
Specifically about the loops situation:
1) this should not be an excuse to keep the source code closed. If other instances start pushing too much video, admins can just defederate them.
2) Please avoid reinventing yet-another wheel. Inventing is fun, but forcing others to use your inventions all the time is not. Webtorrents are already a thing. IPFS is already a thing. Just pick one solution that is content addressable and makes distribution scale with the number of consumers.

I had 57 posts that were stuck in the import queue for a couple of days, but now they were properly imported. However, if I try to import Instagram posts from august 2021 and beyond they do not appear in the pixelfed import page. I've already looked in the Instagram json file and everything seems alright (I also have already tried to change the blank caption in the json file to see if it works). Only posts from 2018 to july 2021 appear in the import queue. Someone with the same issue?
any update? It was stuck processing since a few months ago, and now it just says "pixelfed.social" 😐
