My Journey Away from Meta and Google
I am continuing my journey AWAY from Meta and Google. My Facebook account is deleted and I have no other Meta apps that I use. I'm using Bluesky and Mastodon now. I've been using Gmail since 2004, the year it came out.The Skeptical Librarian

It is small, but federated (ActivityPub). Some of the instances have plugins for integrating BlueSky as well (friendica.world and my-place.social both do). The interface is built as more of a Facebook replacement complete with groups and a calendar). Oh, and you can add rss feeds right into your newsfeed (I now subscribe to your blog in my feed!).
Down side so far... it is a little slow. But that might be my instance/server being overseas.

Sunday project...
We spent our Sunday leveling the ground and assembling this outdoor "closet". Now all of the long handle tools have a home. Also topped off the dirt levels in our planters getting ready for this years garden. Yay!

Event Site "Tokens"
- I spent Saturday block printing about 130 small cloth bags that will be used a site tokens for an upcoming event. I still need to heat set the ink. Then I will put 3 "medieval" style "coins" (they are plastic toy coins) in each. Each person arriving to the event will get 1 bag of coins in order to give 1 coin to each of their favorite bardic performers throughout the event. The bard with the most coins at the end will win "Mob's Choice" and a small prize.
Here's the calendar entry for the event:

A great review of Friendica.
I've been trying to write a bit to share with my friends about how happy I am with Friendica as my replacement for Facebook and other closed social media platforms. This person basically said everything I planned to say. While the instance I'm on doesn't seen to have the Wordpress or Tumblr plugins (which I would love), the value of streamlining my BlueSky, Pixelfed, and Mastodon in HUGE! Anyway, sharing this until I can spend some time on my WordPress blog to write up something more in depth.

Thank you. I keep meaning to say hi (to Friendica in general as well as you). I've been busy exploring everything Federated I can find for the past month. Has kept me busy running down rabbit holes and learning new things.
Thanks for all you do. I need to see if I can donate a bit when payday comes around. Really do appreciate you running this instance!

Happy Caturday! Meet Tuxie. He was a neighborhood stray. Not quite fully feral - but not domesticated either. He was a neighborhood character ranging about 5 city blocks with multiple food bowls.
I worked with him when he'd visit, slowly getting to a point I could pet him. When we purchased a motorhome to refit and refurbish, he'd come in and keep me company while working on it, even curling up occasionally on the bed with me!
We could not take him in though due to other cats and he clearly needed to be neutered. A local feral cat group trapped and neutered him. I lost contact at that point, but they also foster and place cats. I assume they found a home for him as he was tame enough to make a wonderful pet. I hope he has found a wonderful furever home!

It is interesting to me...
As I go through and remove my content from Facebook post by post, picture by picture - I find that for every 1 picture or post I save, I probably delete 20-30 without saving or reposting. Much of it just isn't interesting anymore and has no specific significance to me now. Or with some photos that were so bad due to an old phone with crappy camera (and I posted TOO many pics in the heat of the moment) - just best to delete them and not re-share them now on other platforms.

Growing up fundie
What she describes is farther into radical fundie land than my upbringing, but it still very much applies. This is some of the garbage we are fighting against in this country. Too many people believe like this and there is a 0% chance of you having any kind of dialogue with them. Everything becomes "demons" and "Satan" if it threatens their core beliefs. And yes, it takes YEARS to un-brainwash yourself from it.

Hmmm...
I started out thinking I would make a quick post about my exploration of other social media platforms - and realized it needed to be a long form article. I also realized it would take more time than I have tonight to complete. So I have a partial draft saved on my Wordpress blog. I'll link/share once it is written.
Thinking about it... if I was still using Facebook for this kind of stuff, I'd have probably fired off a poorly written run-on paragraph about it anyway. Then even more run-on paragraphs in the comments trying to explain the stuff I didn't explain well in the original post.
Maybe it is better this way lol

Testing a long post
This is a test to see how posting a long format post from Friendica is handled in BlueSky. Friendica is interesting. The user interface is more like Facebook (from 10 years ago). It is Federated, so I can follow everyone I follow on Mastodon. But is also has a plug in for BlueSky, so I am seeing BlueSky posts inline with Mastodon stuff. And it posts automagically BlueSky.
The down side is that the settings and preferences are tricky (well more like VERY detailed) to set up. It is not what I call "Grandma friendly". But it has things like Photo Albums, Groups, and a Calendar. And best of all - long format posting capability.

I got the web app set up on my phone, so in the next day or so, I'll use the barcode scan feature to enter a few books and test out what I can do with it.
