Question to Friendica folks:

I've recently followed Altbot@fuzzies.wtf, as I sometimes struggle with writing my own alts, and I can use the help then.

But the way Friendica works, I get so see *many* posts in my time line now, of folks I don't follow and I'm not interested in, because they used alt bot for their post.

I guess I can't ignore the account, because then I guess I would not see the alt text for my posts, should I need it...

Is there a way to set it so, that I will see the alt bot replies to me, but I won't zee all the posts that it comments on? I've even ignored one user that I didn't even know, because they were spamming the time line with the same kind of message over and over, while adding the same image over and over.... It drove me nuts!

So if there is a way that I can restrict seeing all the comments by Alt bot, please do let me know! 🌹

Alright, I've had an idea that I'm trying now...

I made a circle for the Bots πŸ€– and I added Altbot@fuzzies.wtf to it. Then I deleted it from my normal time line of friends.

So hopefully that will mean I still get the alt bot replies when I need them for my posts. As it will tag me then and it will be a notification for me.

Otherwise, all the replies or does for all the folks that I don't know... They should be tucked away in the bot circle, so not bothering me...

At least, I hope that's how it works? πŸ€”

I did have to use the Raccoon app to work with the circle, as somehow the Friendica web app makes it way harder than it needs to be! (it was so much easier with Raccoon...).

Fingers crossed 🀞🏻

Ow, if there is a better way, do let me know! Thanks! 🌻

It depends though, as on my Friendica time line I do get to see the occasional posts that aren't from my friends, but that my friends have interacted with (and not just boosted).

A like for the OP has a lower threshold for me than boosting someone that I don't really know. I'm AuDHD and I struggle with social interactions. Heck, it's even hard to boost a friend or some of my own toots from other accounts.

I try to boost more, and I'm "learning", but it's just that awkward feeling within me that makes it harder to do so. 😊

No pressure. I'm not a mod of friendica.world or anything! Just trying to help figure out how this works. If your friend replies to something, your instance can request the parent post and so on up. So you could also share stuff with your friends by replying to it. I don't know of any way you could see posts that people you follow are seeing, unless they boosted them, or replied to them.

Or @mentioned them. The @ stuff specifies an additional person to send the post to.

Lol I was unable to log in for a while and as I got in back I saw this post.
Not just today but for the past few days I've noticed a back and forth inability to access the site but it's always nice when it gets back!

Yeah, it usually drops off around my 3AM (CET) and then it comes back between 6-8AM, probably when Ruud gives the system a kick in the butt to start up again. They're working on it, but it's a work in progress (Ruud just shared a post about it). 😊 It's always good when its back!

Alt texts on Friendica?

When I joined Fedi, first Masto and then Pixelfed, I've learned about the beauty of Alt texts. I'm not that good with them, and sometimes I use AI to help me with getting a decent enough text. But when I add an image here, I can't see where I can add the Alt text/image description.

I've been trying to just add it to the post, as Friendica offers a ton of space for text. But if friends that use screen readers would see my posts, is there a way to really add an Alt text to my images? Or should I just write it in the post, as I've been doing?

Thanks in advance for your help! 🌹

Friendica uses BBCode tags for formatting, links and media in posts.

So when you insert an image into a post or comment, you'll see something like

[url=https://friendica.world/photos/etcetcetc][img=https://friendica.world/photo/a-big-number.jpeg][/img][/url]

Between the img and slash-img tags is where you put your alt text.

[url=https://friendica.world/photos/etcetcetc][img=https://friendica.world/photo/a-big-number.jpeg]ALT TEXT HERE[/img][/url]

It is, unfortunately, a manual process, but hopefully one that isn't too bad for you.

Thanks for the explanation! It will be a learning process but it should be worth it to make my feed accessible to more people. 😊

Thanks so much for letting me know! 😁 I was wondering how to do it and I'm not too familiar with http bits, so I've learned something today. 😊 Thanks! 🌹
