I have often shared that I thrive on a decent enough routine. And I know it can seem and/or be boring at times. As itโs always the same, if there arenโt any appointments or commitments happening that day. And most days, itโs not a problem at all, and I know what to expect and how to deal with it. But some days, after Iโve gone through the nightly routine, I just wanna get back to bed and hide from the world until itโs night time again. I can deal with the night, with the darkness, with the calm and quiet of the world. But when it gets later, when the things I really enjoy have been doneโฆ
Of course there are things that I need to do during the day that are good and important as well. I get PT every two weeks, which helps me a lot. I need to get groceries at times. I sometimes meet up with friends and do fun things with them. But I am always eager then bed time closes in again. Knowing there will be peace and calm when I wake up again.
People sometimes complain that they canโt handle the longer, darker, days of winter. And while it has some advantages when it gets light earlier (like going to the woods early with Arwen), I donโt mind the dark. Itโs calmer to my eyes. There are usually less people around when itโs darker. And those are all good reasons to like the dark.
I know I am going to bed a little earlier than I would like these days. I used to go to bed between 15-15:30, which suited me a bit better. But since the winter time, Arwen (and her friend) want walkies around 13:30. Meaning that around 14:30, I am ready to get to bed. I tried to stay up that extra hour, ask Arwen to wee before heading to bed. But, often, Arwen didnโt want to wee so short after walkies, which meant that I had to get up earlier anyway to let her out in time again. So yeah, I just decided to head to bed after the walkies. But my preferred sleeping time would be between 15:30-23:30.
The gym was a little less busy when I came there after midnight. Which was better for me to deal with. And I had a bit more time to deal with the โdailyโ things during the โnormalโ daytime hours. But I have adapted for the needs of Arwen and I will see what happens when we go back to the summer hours again in March.
But yeah, same stuff (seemed a bit nicer than saying same shit ๐ฉ), different day. And for me, it is good to know what lies ahead. I love to plan ahead. When I knew halfway December 2023 that I was gonna move somewhere in 2024, I immediately started organizing everything. I planned, made lists, made even more lists. I think I did it rather well, and I was glad with how most things worked out.
When I know I am meeting with friends, especially if theyโre sleeping over, I will plan ahead too. Check which type of bedding they want, at least two weeks in advance, so I can make sure itโs all clean and ready before they come. I will plan things to do with them, the groceries I need to get for them, I will discuss if they have anything they wanna do, so I can plan that too.
I plan. I canโt manage without planning. I need to feel in control over how the day will be going. How many spoons will I need? How much do I need to prepare for food and drinks? How can I get it all clean in time for the visit? As I canโt clean too early as it will be messy again when theyโre hereโฆ So I need everything else planned ahead so the last few days, I can spend on the cleaning. Even though I know my friends donโt care about that, as long as there are no cockroaches running around! ๐

Same thingsโฆ I know it may sound boring to most folks! But, I do think it may be something more NeuroSpicy ๐ถ๏ธ need/do. So, same shitโฆ My typical day, when there is nothing planned besides the usual (so no appointments, and no groceries needed), looks something like this:
- Getting up, sometimes by alarm, sometimes before it goes off.
- Scale, meds, caring for Arwen (food and a wee), and then getting tot he gym.
- Doing my things at the gym, depending on how well I feel/how good it goes/how busy it is.
- Getting home, washing up, having brekky, and then getting ready for SniffiVerseโข walkies with Arwen.
- Walking with Arwen, there are different lengths of the walk, depending on the weather and Arwenโs health.
- Riding the hometrainer (time depends on how I feel).
- Working on my blog a bit.
- Food, followed by a shorter walk with Arwen.
- Relaxing on the couch. Maybe doing some house chores, depending on what needs to be done, and how many spoons I have available .
- Walking Arwen again. Followed by fixing Arwen some food.
- If all chores have been done, Iโll either watch TV or play a game, until itโs time to prepare for the bedtime routine.
- Taking meds, brushing teeth, putting everything ready for the next day, followed by a walk with the neighbor and her dog.
- Bed timeโฆ ๐ค
So itโs pretty basic and maybe boring. There are certain days where I have planned activities. Tuesdays, biweekly, I visit the physical therapist. Usually, every Thursday, I will go to Nijmegen to visit Germany with mum for groceries. In between there are other moments where I need groceries, where I have health appointments for either Arwen or myself.
And even though every day blends in with the others, even though it seems boring at times, I try to keep sharing my life. Sharing it here in my journal blog posts, sharing it on Mastodon with my #Journal tootsโฆ Because, however boring it may seem, it does represent another day where I have managed to get through it, where I may have even enjoyed it, where I have overcome the things that came alongโฆ It may seem weird to look at it this way, but sometimes, I just feel like I am trying to survive in a world thatโs not really tailored to suit the needs of me.. ๐ Guess thatโs another reason why this routine is so important to me to keep going strongโฆ
