@wing lol! There are people, haha (myself included). But the more successful are the microblogging platforms like Mastodon, so that's where people go. That doesn't mean that you can't find content, thank god ActivityPub exists. But people are so used to writing just one or two lines of text and call it a day that they do not care about the alternatives.
Anyway, I don't wanna go on with this, but if you want to follow content, check out fedi.directory, the Friendica directory, some of the accounts on Flipboard that enabled federation or this list. I'm sure there are some more. If you can't find what you're looking for, but it has a website, it most likely has an RSS feed. Paste the website in the address bar and it will find it.
You'll likely feel yourself a bit overwhelmed with information, so add those contacts to circles to streamline your content.

I'm struggling with the recent changes at Facebook. But I'm not a twitter type guy. I like the way Facebook allows us to share what we are doing and how I can keep in touch with friends. And how I can post to only friends.

Nederland liet in 2014 een groep mensen in de steek in Afghanistan, mensen die voor Defensie gewerkt hadden en hun leven na vertrek van de Nederlanders niet zeker waren. Zoals de tolken die onze militairen geholpen hadden.
Een van hen is de heer Ahmadzai. In 2014 voerden we actie om hem en zijn gezin veilig te stellen:
"Stap 1 is gezet: Fred Teeven heeft besloten de asielaanvraag van Ahmadzai Help Abdul Ghafoor Ahmadzai aan een verblijfsvergunning toch in behandeling te nemen.
Nu afwachten wanneer de IND klaar is met onderzoek.
Ondertussen blijft tekenen van de petitie wél belangrijk. Laat zien dat je mededogen kent en vóór een goede regeling voor mensen die in dienst van het Nederlandse leger risico's hebben gelopen en niet terug kunnen naar hun land."

Nu (al bijna 11 jaar later) staat de petitie nog steeds online met een dankwoord en een tekening van de kinderen van Abdul Ahmadzai.
Ik voerde destijds redelijk stevig actie op Twitter om hen te helpen. Toen was Twitter nog redelijk sociaal.
