@deFractal To be very blunt, this should be a great time for Canadian companies, universities and government agencies to be hiring the best American talent. Our immigration system already favours educated professionals who speak either English or French. And if you already have a job offer, it's that much easier. But our refugee system obviously puts priority on people whose safety is seriously at risk - from war, or political persecution , etc.

Canada’s asylum system helps people who have fled their countries because of a well-founded fear of persecution. Claiming asylum doesn’t guarantee you can stay in Canada. It isn’t a shortcut to get around immigration rules and procedures.

We do need a lot of healthcare workers and scientists and engineers and home builders and renewable energy workers, and we're likely rather soon to need more defence and intelligence personnel and DIB R&D and manufacturing workers too. Perhaps it's time we make that additional track.

Yes. There's certainly a need for both. And the refugees will likely have a better time getting and keeping work, and thriving in their jobs, if they can recognize themselves, in some way, in more of their colleagues.

Nous expliquons depuis des années les dangers de cette technologies qui s'infiltre, pas à pas, dans nos villes et nos vies. Mais ici le plus frappant n'est pas tant la défense de cette surveillance de masse par une majorité de député·es que la facilité déconcertante avec laquelle ils peuvent s'affranchir des promesses et des procédures qu'ils et elles ont eux-même édictées il y a deux ans (expérimentation, évaluation, etc.), afin d'imposer leur fuite en avant techno-sécuritaire.

Écrire a quelq'un avec Gmail(tm) est même clairement une atteinte a sa Liberté et à son intimité numériques ! Lire les conditions d'usage c'est édifiant !

Si quelqu'un se dit "militant" et utilise gmail, teams, zoom ou autre, c'est simplement un(e) menteur(se) et se serait déjà fait arrêté si il/elle était bel et bien "militant".
tout ça est trop bien en théorie. Par contre, si vous avez dans votre équipe quelqu'un comme moi qui aurait des besoins particuliers (et notamment en accessibilité numérique), vous avez deux alternatives : GAFAM ou discrimination. Et si j'ouvre une discussion ou un bug GitHub (oh pardon, Codeberg) à propos d'accessibilité, la plupart des cas j'entends soit « C'est trop niche, on a pas de projets / pas suffisamment de forces », soit »C'est open-source, s'il te le faut, répare-le toi-même ». Mais je peux pas faire tout moi-même, donc je paie les grandes entreprises. Parce que oui, c'est non seulement pratique, mais utilisable par tout le monde.
Utilise deltachat, tu auras du chiffrement obligatoire si tu utilises un profil généré, et si tu utilises ton mail classique les mails seront chiffrés si possible. Tu ne vois jamais les clés, tout est géré pour toi automatiquement. Le serveur ne fournit aucun service nécessaire, tout se passe coté client. @Khrys

Je sens que je vais devoir quitter ma boîte qui s'oriente de plus en en plus vers un modèle où on pisse du code sale que faire du code propre et maintenable.

When I started looking into the logistics of my arrival time, I realized there would be an opportunity to photograph the Milky Way somewhere under the dark skies of northern Utah or southern Idaho. Not wanting to stray too far off the highway, I looked for areas that might offer a unique foreground for the composition.
I soon realized that the highway alignment (northwest to southeast) would allow for a "highway to the stars" type of image, and started looking for an ideal overpass. This one caught my eye and I couldn't have been happier with the results. It took some time to capture, as it was necessary to get all of the Milky Way images without traffic on the highway, and then of course I needed to get a few images with light trails from the cars on the highway below.
I didn't have star tracker at the time, but other than that there are few things I would've changed considering the challenge and how it turned out!

Also, I read the article. This is a program for literally 15 people, thousands of Americans are getting their research defunded and getting fired from essential government positions. Seems like this is more about good PR than any attempt to actually bring over a significant chunk of knowledge and ability

Hon. @Paulatics (who, as far as I've seen, is still our only member of government on Mastodon?), would you please recommend Marc Miller and Bill Blair offer refuge and employment to former US defence personnel wrongfully fired for their identity in protected categories? And offer their families a safe place here too? It would help us improve #CAF recruitment numbers.
I doubt anyone in #Canada whose opinion has any bearing on the matter is ignorant enough to believe being trans (or queer, or Black, or a woman) adversely effects the ability to perform the duties of a member of a modern military.
Likewise, for intelligence community members.

I suppose those only fired for being trans or queer or Black or women will have to wait till Donald sends his brownshirts after them, unless we create an alternate path for them beforehand.
We do need a lot of healthcare workers and scientists and engineers and home builders and renewable energy workers, and we're likely rather soon to need more defence and intelligence personnel and DIB R&D and manufacturing workers too. Perhaps it's time we make that additional track.
