I’m bloody lost. I’m usually in the tail of any digital exodus, I arrive when all my friends are already there. Usually while moping and whining about having to move. But this time it’s different. Most of my friends are still on the Big Tech socials, and I have no idea what I’m doing or where I’m going. But hey, I’m here. I’m Dutch. I have no filter (now less than ever because I’m still in the process of quitting nicotine.) I use(d) Facebook as my diary, because narrating my life is kinda how I survive. But I’m trying to imagine a life without Facebook, because you know, Big Tech.

A lot of us (me included) are new here. I got here a few weeks ago, with the goal to expand my horisons, and preferably get a few of my friends to come here as well.
I no longer try to get them to leave, but rather be on multiple platforms to join me.
So: Friendica.
Friendica is part of the Fediverse, and Mastodon (very-but-not-100% similar to Twitter) is also part of the Fediverse, and so is Pixelfed (kind of like Instagram?) and a bunch of other things, so you'll see posts from those things here too. And you can interact with those! You with a Friendica account, and them with other Fediverse accounts.
To get some content though, you'll need to act: the Fediverse doesn't know what you "might" like, so you'll need to tell it: follow hashtags - #introduction

To get some content though, you'll need to act: the Fediverse doesn't know what you "might" like, so you'll need to tell it: follow hashtags - #introduction for new people, #music for unspecified music, #books for, uh, books, ... etc.. There will be things you're not interested in - if you really don't want it, then just block it (and if it's probably not allowed, report it - as far as I know, there are no paid moderators here, so help them out).
And follow people! - You don't need to follow people back (and you can "block" them or "ignore" them if they're really not of interest), but if they seem interesting, please do.
And you can use this as a personal notes thingie. Either post is as Public, for all the world to see, or to Followers, for people following you, or to none, if it's just for your eyes.
And as I wrote, I'm still exploring myself, but I think that will get you started. 🤗

Het is heerlijk te ontdekken dat er nog steeds plaatsen bestaan waar een mens zichzelf kan zijn, zonder overdonderd te worden door reclame, ongewenste intimiteiten van fakeprofielen, massahysterie enzovoorts. En mensen hier openminded zijn, evenals openhartig. Zalig!
