I don't know friend I a as client but usually there are a lot of filter settings that prevent your time line being overcrowded with stuff you are not interested in. My personsl feed contains only massages/posts from people or institutions I follow. I'm using Tusky for Android.
Unfortunately or fortunately I never used FB and I don't know how exactly they organized their feed.

@junglecat_rant 🏳️‍🌈🇺🇦 I'm using TweeseCake. There are different timelines, but the problems still persist. Granted, I can narrow things a bit by not reading the Federated Timeline and reading Home and Notifications, but it's still scattered and I still see various conversations. I know Friendica has circles, but I've never really delved into those. As for Facebook, I use the Basic Mobile site (not app), which was very accessible and uncluttered. Their main page is a mess, and since they shut down the Basic Mobile version, I haven't really posted there.

I am starting to accept some people as subscribers rather than full friends. This means that they can see my posts but I can't see theirs. Today, for example, I had someone request to follow me. I went to his profile and immediately saw obscenities and radical politics. I don't mind if people follow me, but I have no interest in seeing any of that in my feeds, especially since I spent several hours cleaning them last night!

The Alces alces andersoni or Western Moose is native to the woods and protected areas of Northern and Western Canada, the Northern United States, and they were even introduced to the Fiordland National Park in New Zealand, but might not still be there. Described by Roy L. Peterson in 1952, they are the second largest species of moose in the world! They stand 1.9 to 2.0 meters or 5.11 to 6.6ft at the shoulder, with antlers spanning 1.5 to 1.7 meters or 4.9 to 5.6ft, and weigh 600 to 1,590 pounds.

@rothko That was my fault for not doing more research first, and not checking for new comments. Anywho, I realized how the post was worded, and edited it. That species of moose was transported from Canada to South Island, New Zealand in 1900, because whoever was in charge of the government wanted them in the park. The moose didn’t survive, but for some reason, they tried again with more moose. That time, they did better, but no one knows if they are still there. No one has seen them.

One particularly strange myth is that a colony of whales live in Utah's Great Salt Lake. Apparently, a British scientist introduced two whales into the lake - which he'd captured near Australia - with the intention of starting a whale oil industry. He had the creatures transported by rail from San Francisco in special tanks filled with sea water. The whales, however, broke free from their enclosure and travelled into deeper parts of the lake, where they were later seen spouting and playing with their offspring. They were also said to have grown significantly, reaching 60 feet in length. This legend seems to have been spread by sensationalist newspaper articles. It's unlikely that whales could survive in water of such high salinity and the relatively shallow depth of the lake would be unsuitable for large marine mammals. #folklore #weird #history #whales #cryptozoology #Utah

@Moss Wow. I have lived in Utah my whole life (finally about to change that!) and I've never heard that myth!

As soon as I read the first line of the post I realized it is impossible, because I knew the lake is significantly saltier than the ocean and that whales could never thrive in water that shallow. But, I'm not surprised that this myth exists.

The Ursus thibetanus or Asiatic Black Bear, also known as the Moon Bear or White-Chested Bear, due to their white, V-shaped chest patches, is found in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Himalayas, Myanmar, most of Maritime Southeast Asia, the Koreas, and Japan. In 1823, they were described by French naturalist and zoologist, Jean Léopold Nicolas Frédéric, baron Cuvier. They are one of the world’s largest bears, at 120 to 190 centimeters or 47 to 75 inches in length, and weigh 88 to 440 pounds.

Scarlet-throated Tanager

Large tanager that resembles an icterid. Males are glossy black with a bright red throat, which is absent on females. An inhabitant of dry scrubby forest (caatinga), gallery woodland, and open areas, usually near water. Seen in pairs or small groups. Song also recalls icterids: a loud “chirt” repeated for long periods. Best distinguished from icterids by its blunter, more curved bill.

“The Starry Night” Follows Laws of Physics That Weren’t Discovered Yet

Art lovers have long known that the Dutch painter saw the night sky like nobody else — and now scientists know it, too.

Troubled artist or mad scientist? As it turns out, Vincent van Gogh might have been both — a new study reveals that the brushstrokes from his iconic “The Starry Night” (1889) align rather seamlessly with the laws of fluid motion in physics.

This is what I've been working on this year: An #NES #chiptune editor that uses a #Lisp interpreter as an interface. It's made with #accessibility in mind to address the needs of blind composers or folks who otherwise have difficulty with graphical interfaces, and is heavily inspired by #MML but hopes to bring a higher level of interactivity by using a live Lisp environment.

The audio playback engine is an actual NES emulator and exports music in NSF format as well as WAVE. Offers frame-level control of pitch, volume and duty for the 4 basic sound channels.

It still has a long way to go but the main pieces are in place. Feedback welcome!

The Piasa Bird, painted on cliffs next to the Mississippi River, near Alton, Illinois. According to one account, this monstrous creature - with huge antlers, a scaly horselike body, fangs, wings and a long beard - swooped out of the sky one day and snatched up a member of the Illini tribe. It thereafter terrorised the Illini on a daily basis, usually snatching humans to devour. It was eventually killed. Warriors fired arrows at its only weak point, the delicate scales right beneath its wings, and - with a shriek - the bird tumbled into the Mississippi. A depiction of the Piasa was then painted on the cliff and each time a warrior passed, he would fire an arrow - and later rifle - at it for good luck. The earliest written record of the painting (which does not mention wings) is from 1673. Over time, it faded and a portion was quarried away by landowners in the 19th century, but decades later the mural was restored. #folklore #history #art #mythology #Psychogeography
