Accessible Youtube Downloader Pro stopped working properly a few days ago. Can anyone recommend anything that works with NVDA? I would prefer a client, but I have also used various youtube to mp3 sites in the past. I would prefer something that lets me set the bitrate to 128kbps or that defaults to it.

In my experience there are two good tools:

1. Terminal application yt-dlp. Can be hard to install but, after that you just run "yt-dlp -x <your_URL>" to download audio

Very reliable, but latest version is recommended

2. NewPipe - unofficial YouTube app for Android. Supports audio only download, but I'm not sure about screen reader support

Mostly reliable, but also latest version should be used

I've mentioned yt-dlp with Windows in mind. That's why I've mentioned it can be hard to install, while on Linux it's not 😀

I found a very good site. I'm still seeking a client, but for now, this works. It is also free of ads, so I don't have to worry about viruses and such.

Trip to London - Suggestions?

So we're planning a trip to London in a couple months. We'll be hitting the standard tourist spots (again for me, first time for the rest of my family), and I'm curious if anyone has any off-the-beaten-path suggestions to check out while we're there.

Its impossible to make recommendations without knowing who they are for.

However there are a couple of things I recommend
a) go on a hop on/hop off bus tour on the first day. See the whole th9ing. It takes a couple of hours. Then get back on and do it again but get off and explore where you find something of interest. You now have the macro view.
b) research your interests, eg. Motor bikes, dressmaking, sailing, Peter the Great, etc.. and see what there is of this in London.
c) take a water taxi from westminster steps.
enjoy.

in reply to Faustus

Fair point. Like I said we'll be seeing all the normal tourist points, and since there are six of us travelling in a wide range of ages, interests vary. The Hop On Hop Off busses are a staple of all our trips, and the water taxi is a good idea - we did that in Paris but not London the last time.

I'm happy to hear about anything others find interesting - it may or may not suit us, but we can't check it out if we don't know it's there.

I just liked a few of my boosted posts. I hope the likes are connected to the boosted posts to show my appreciation. I'm just writing this in case they are displayed on my originals. I have absolutely no problem with self-confidence, but even a dandy lover has to draw the line somewhere! haha

Saturday Coffee & Tunes 25/1/25

Appropriately titled record for this week's political events. Democrazy was completely canned when it came out in 2003 with criticism of both the DIY sound but also Damon personally for choosing to release this. Over 20 years later, this vinyl only EP with it's spectacular packaging has been getting a lot of appreciation. Recorded during Blur's US tour for Think Tank, several of the songs on this would feature on later albums and come hits including I Need A Gun, which turned into the Gorillaz song Dirty Harry. Half a Song 20 years later became The Ballad on Blurs latest album.

Maybe it's because I was listening to a lot of DIY and outside folk stuff in the early 2000s that I found something quite intimate about this record and couldn't understand all the negativity. But then as a long time Blur stan perhaps I was biased.

The raw demo of Half Song is heartbreakly exquisite and the full version on The Ballad is just stunning, one of my favourites.

But it slammed the door

Picked this up in a Salisbury op shop the other week for $3.

The sleeve is proper cowgum and scissors crazy.

I don't know friend I a as client but usually there are a lot of filter settings that prevent your time line being overcrowded with stuff you are not interested in. My personsl feed contains only massages/posts from people or institutions I follow. I'm using Tusky for Android.
Unfortunately or fortunately I never used FB and I don't know how exactly they organized their feed.

@junglecat_rant 🏳️‍🌈🇺🇦 I'm using TweeseCake. There are different timelines, but the problems still persist. Granted, I can narrow things a bit by not reading the Federated Timeline and reading Home and Notifications, but it's still scattered and I still see various conversations. I know Friendica has circles, but I've never really delved into those. As for Facebook, I use the Basic Mobile site (not app), which was very accessible and uncluttered. Their main page is a mess, and since they shut down the Basic Mobile version, I haven't really posted there.

Me: "I'm doing my part by listening to L7 and driving like an asshole."

Coworker: "Exactly what part..."

Me: "REDNECKS ON PARADE! DON'T CROSS MY LINE SAYS EVERGLADE!"

I had the pleasure of seeing them twice - once opening for the Beastie Boys, and once in a small basement club, standing right up to the edge of the stage. Those were the days!

They were here not long ago (last year or the year before), but I missed out.

Enjoy some waterfall time on me. Alt text: this is a short video of a waterfall in southern Appalachia that is flowing gently over multiple rocks, but it is also cold so there is ice on the edges. It is a sunny day so it adds to the beauty.

Really nice....which waterfall is it? You've inspired me to post one of my waterfall videos from the souther US highlands...
in reply to HollerPixie

cool....if I'm right, that's not far from the Blood Mountain part of the AT. Lots of beauty in the north Georgia mountains

I am starting to accept some people as subscribers rather than full friends. This means that they can see my posts but I can't see theirs. Today, for example, I had someone request to follow me. I went to his profile and immediately saw obscenities and radical politics. I don't mind if people follow me, but I have no interest in seeing any of that in my feeds, especially since I spent several hours cleaning them last night!

I suspect this isn’t going to be very interesting unless I can convince a bunch of friends to join?
in reply to Mark Reid

Or if you find some people here that you like. If you succeed with both options it would be ideal, I guess.

Think I picked this up for a quid in a charity shop in Barking. Promo sticker on sleeve - I like shit like that.

Loved 999 as a kid, and still think they're quite underrated.

Love Nick Cash's whisper-shriek singing, particularly.
