ACTION ALERT: Stop DDOT from removing protected bike lanes

From the June 13, 2025 Seven-Thirty DC (7:30 DC) newsletter

Unprotecting a bike lane

In what appears to be a first, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is removing flex post-protected bike lanes in favor of unprotected painted ones. The move goes against traffic control standards both in DC and nationally, as well as what appeared to be a deliberative consensus-building process among neighbors, local officials, and DDOT itself. DDOT is still soliciting additional feedback through its notice of intent, where you can give your input.

VULGAR DEMAGOGUE

VULGAR DEMAGOGUE

A vain, outlandish, anti-immigrant, fear-mongering demagogue runs for President of the United States -- and wins. Sinclair Lewis's 1935 bestseller is the story of Buzz Windrip, who promises poor, angry voters that he will make America proud and prosperous once more, but takes the country down a far darker path. As the new regime slides into authoritarinanism, newspaper editor Doremus Jessup can't believe it will last -- but is he right? This cautionary tale of liberal complacency in the face of populist tyranny shows it can happen here.

Book blurb for "It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis (1935)

"Vulgar, almost illiterate, a public liar easily detected.. He was an actor of genius"
