"Kids don't have a little brother working in the coal mine, they don't have a little sister coughing her lungs out in the looms of the big mill towns of the Northeast. Why? Because we organized; we broke the back of the sweatshops in this country; we have child labor laws. Those were not benevolent gifts from enlightened management. They were fought for, they were bled for, they were died for by working people, by people like us. Kids ought to know that." americanswhotellthetruth.org/p… #uspol

anyone have a list where authors are selling their eBooks (EPUB) for money, but DRM-free?
This entry was edited (1 month ago)
in reply to Jay Hannah

@deafferret Smashwords is DRM-free (and they’re having their big sale from Sunday, so a good chance to try a few books cheaply)

Kobo leaves it up to the publisher/indie whether to tick the DRM box or not

#WritingCommunity where else do you sell your books DRM-free?

Elyse M Grasso reshared this.

in reply to Wendy Palmer

@wendypalmer @deafferret I left the 'Do you want DRM' box unchecked on both Kindle and Draft2Digital (where I'm signed up for nearly all the channels). Whether anyone is paying attention is another matter...
in reply to Elyse M Grasso

thanks! I added you to my list. FYI: the TLS cert on your store expired, so my browser throws nasty warnings: 64.27.63.131/~dataraptors/supe…

@deafferret Thanks for letting me know. I have just migrated between hosting services, so the DNS and certs may not have completely updated and settled. I'll get support to check it out.
in reply to Jay Hannah

@deafferret The website should be working better now: the migration took weeks instead of days, and some things got tangled. Let me know if you have any more problems.

Also, thanks to Canadian copyright exceptions, Fadedpage.com has way more recent books than many other public domain repositories.

in fact, if this works out for meta, i see a bunch of class action lawsuits targeting the mpaa and riaa to pay restitution for all the grandmas and other random people they sued and intimidated since metallica showed us who they really are

The problem with "let them get what they deserve" is that a whole lot of vulnerable people, Black people, trans people and disabled people *who tried to warn everyone about this fuckery* are gonna get what the Trump voters deserve.

Let's face it, Europe (and other parts of the world). The USA is not our ally anymore. Trump and his robber barons have their own agenda (if they really have one, I can only see short-sighted action causing immense damage and chaos).

The earlier we accept this and act accordingly, the better for all of us.

This is my very personal opinion.

Saved and liberated the books I "bought" at Amazon for my Kindle. Amazon will stop offering the "Download & transfer via USB" option, so I have downloaded all 210 books. After downloading, I hunt them through Calibre and a certain plugin to remove the DRM stuff, convert the books to EPUB format so I have my private backup and can put them on a new ebook reader that is more open than the Amazon walled garden. And in future I will buy my eBooks someplace else. #ByeAmazon

How do I find the mastodon(?) feeds I'm following?

!Friendica Support
I'm completely new to Friendica and finding it horribly confusing. (No problems with Mastodon, PeerTube, etc. and a Linux user since 1994.) At some point, I subscribed? followed? suggestions that weren't Friendica but were Mastodon? (I think.) Now, I cannot find them or how to unfollow them.

Friendica Support reshared this.

in reply to Tadonic the Flautulent, Breaker of Wind

Hmmm... I thought I'd started following some flipchart / flip-something thing, and it seems that a lot of the feed I see comes from such a source, but the contacts doesn't list the that as one of the feeds I'm subscribing to. So, maybe my beer- and age-addled brain is misremembering.

(Also, I see the heading "3 contacts" with four contacts listed under it. These are the kinds of things that gives one pause. 😉)
