Singing to Infants Boosts Mood and Bonding

Singing to Infants Boosts Mood and Bonding

A new study shows that singing to infants can significantly improve their mood and support caregiver-infant bonding.

In a randomized trial, 110 caregivers were encouraged to sing more frequently to their babies through a four-week, smartphone-based intervention.

Results revealed increased infant-directed singing, especially during soothing routines, which led to notable improvements in infants’ overall mood.

Interestingly, caregivers adopted singing as a primary soothing strategy even without being instructed to do so.

High survey completion rates demonstrated strong participant engagement and the feasibility of low-cost interventions.

The researchers are now conducting longer-term studies to explore additional health benefits and compare singing with other interactive activities like reading.

VULGAR DEMAGOGUE

VULGAR DEMAGOGUE

A vain, outlandish, anti-immigrant, fear-mongering demagogue runs for President of the United States -- and wins. Sinclair Lewis's 1935 bestseller is the story of Buzz Windrip, who promises poor, angry voters that he will make America proud and prosperous once more, but takes the country down a far darker path. As the new regime slides into authoritarinanism, newspaper editor Doremus Jessup can't believe it will last -- but is he right? This cautionary tale of liberal complacency in the face of populist tyranny shows it can happen here.

Book blurb for "It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis (1935)

"Vulgar, almost illiterate, a public liar easily detected.. He was an actor of genius"
